Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jack Ross is a visual artist, and art educator. Jack studied Fine Art at NSCAD University (BFA, Painting, 2012), and has worked as a drawing and painting instructor with NSCAD's School of Extended Studies for over 10 years. He teaches courses for adults and teenagers with a particular focus on making art understandable and accessible for everyone.
Originally from the Annapolis Valley, Jack has lived in the Halifax region since he was a teenager. Jack has exhibited work at galleries throughout Nova Scotia including: The Craig Gallery at Alderney Landing, The Anna Leonowens Gallery, NSCAD University, 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery, Dine by Design East, Nocturne Halifax, the Ice House Gallery, and Argyle Fine Art.
Jack is represented by Argyle Fine Art in Halifax.
Jack has a keen interest in the material qualities of paint and painting's historical and contemporary significance in art. Direct observational study is often a key component in his practice. His work is concerned with social spaces, the significance of source material, direct methods of paint application, and the relevancy of painted images in today’s technologically dependent society.
